Have you ever thought about how much numbers define us? It seems too much value is often placed on that number on the scale, that amount in a paycheck, or that number of friends or likes on social media. As we get older, we also let our age define and limit us too.
I am certainly not saying numbers themselves are all bad just like money itself is not the root of all evil. Numbers do give us some accountability in our lives, and a way to measure if we are progressing towards goals. Yet, I can get unhealthily consumed by a particular number, let if define my worth, and forget my spiritual value.
Plus, as hard as we often try, sometimes there are numbers that just don’t add up in our favor. For someone, it may be:
- The number on the scale is just not moving in the right direction or as fast as you would like despite working hard at exercising and/or eating healthy.
- You are a loving, kind, fun, and loyal friend. Yet, you feel left out socially. You may feel like you have few or no friends.
- You may be the hardest worker at your job without the raise, promotion, higher sales numbers, or praise.
In the Bible, Revelations says Satan will even mark his followers with his number. However, we must remember it also says all believers in Christ are marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit and protected by God.
We know Christ has chosen us and made the ultimate sacrifice for us. He’s given us a priceless gift because we are priceless to Him. Therefore, I know I don’t need to get so caught up in attaching my worth to a particular number. I am so much more to Him and so are you!
Dressed in Faith
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory.
