We Are Made to Live is a devotional that I wrote some months after my mom passed away in 2018. Now, many years later, I’m not having sleepless nights over her passing. However, I certainly miss and think about her often! If you’ve experienced a recent loss, I hope this devotional encourages you as you heal and move forward. And I hope this devotional reminds all of us to live intentionally each day since life here on earth is fleeting…
I’ve had many sleepless nights since my mom’s passing. During the day, I keep my mind off of it by focusing on what needs to be done. However, once I get in bed to go to sleep and everything gets quiet, I keep going through the details of what happened. As I said, her death was totally unexpected. She was not in poor health. Many who came to her funeral had just seen her a few days before in that same funeral home where they attended the visitation of another friend. Despite those circumstances, her friends told me that she seemed positive and healthy – pretty much like herself. Just a mere 24 hours later, my mom entered into her home in Heaven.
As I try to understand these recent events, one thing keeps coming to mind over and over. We are made to live – whether here on earth or in Heaven. We have a purpose here and there. Joy can be found here, and we will definitely have joy there. When God made us, He made us to live with Him. His plan certainly never included the sin that man would fall into and the punishment that followed. It didn’t include separation from Him. However, He knew beforehand what would happen and made a way for us. Christ went on to sacrifice Himself for us, because He wants us to live!
My mom would not want me to be stressing over every detail, not getting my sleep, and mourning endlessly. She now knows exactly what is ahead for each one of us who follow Christ! She wants me to keep living here on earth. Mom wants me to have joy and treasure each day. She wants me to go forward with the hope she had and that now is fulfilled.
So, I will go on with that hope and faith in Christ that our life does not end here. Among my many hopes for this blog is that it might reach someone who doesn’t have a relationship with Christ so that they too can call Him their Savior. We who have trusted in Him are only just beginning to live.
Dressed in Faith
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
