I heard a quote in my daily Bible study that really struck a chord with me.
“For many of us it is easier to believe in God’s wrath than in His grace.”
In other words, it’s easier for many of us to trust that God will definitely discipline us or even punish us. However, it’s harder to trust that He will provide us with good things.
Wow, I admit that I sometimes fall into thinking this way. Do you? Sometimes, we think this way out of fear. Perhaps, it’s even fear of stepping out in faith for Him. It can be doubts in God’s promises. Also, it may be guilt for something wrong we’ve done even if we’ve asked for forgiveness. Lastly, it’s probably just plain feeling unworthy of God’s love.
Yet, God’s love, kindness, protection, great mercy, and forgiveness are dominating factors in my relationship with Him. And I am reminded over and over again of the gift of Jesus who has taken away my sins. So, why don’t I or any of us believe Him even more strongly for the great things He has in store for us.
Many moons ago, I listened to a sermon on life’s problems, suffering, and being up against walls in this world. The pastor stated that one big reason is that Satan fights against us. Unfortunately, we who are God’s children are his target. But we know we have a God on our side Who is all powerful and in complete control of this world.
While God does discipline the ones He loves (Hebrews 12:6), He does so to refine us, restore us, give us hope and a clearer picture of Who He is. On the other hand, Satan wants to turn us away from anything good and make us feel completely hopeless…. Anything to distract us from God’s supremacy and power in our lives.
With God, there is always faith, hope, and love. And oh, how much He loves us and wants the very best for us! We can definitely trust in His grace and all the wonderful things He has in store for us every day.
