Today, I’m starting a little series on the best shorts for women over 40! I was going to make one big long post but decided to spread it out over several posts. I’m 52 and still like to wear shorts. I’m not sure I’ll ever stop wearing them either especially on really hot days. I like the ease and comfort of them and that you can dress them up or down.
My legs are not what they used to be but that’s okay. And I’ve never been tan or able to get tan. In fact, I even put a little self tanning lotion on before taking these photos. Ha-ha (insert a lot of laughing so hard I’m crying emojis here)! Either I need to look for another product, apply a lot more, or work on my application technique. However, I’ve been over trying to look tan long before I started blogging. I’m just very fair-skinned, and fair skin is beautiful too. But that’s a topic for another day.
The midrise shorts I’m dressed in today are from White House Black Market. I’ve shopped there almost exclusively for my shorts lately. I realize they may be a little higher price point for some budgets. Yet if you wear shorts a lot, they’ll definitely be worth it on a cost per wear basis. And the older I get, the harder it is to find good quality and well-fitting shorts.
These 4.5 inch shorts are so comfortable and are a good length. I bought the regular size, and they run tad loose. I’m in between sizes and bought the larger size. I do not like my shorts too tight! So, these work great for my thick waist.
I have the cool sage color, but inventory is getting low in that color choice. However, there are a ton of colors to choose from in these shorts. The oat, sergeant, and smoky topaz are all great neutral colors. And I love the smoky plum, rose crush, and tinted ber colors for summer too.
I’m so glad I snagged this twist detail white tee while it was in stock too. Hopefully, they will eventually restock it in white, but they do have a few other colors. This tee in black is well stocked, and I would wear black with these shorts.
My Steve Madden studded pearl sandals are getting low in inventory too (boo! – I feel like a broken record here). I knew they would be before I even had a chance to wear them this spring though. The price is just so good on these sandals. I would definitely say these run true to size too. Don’t size up or they might be too loose on your foot.
You can get these sandals with pearl studs and clear straps. This popular style is similar also.
Dressed in Faith

I would say you have beautiful porcelain skin! And you look like you have no skin blemishes or prominent veins. You are blessed with beautiful skin!
Thank you! That is so sweet of you to say! Though trust me, I do sometimes have a few skin issues that don’t always show up in the pictures. 🙂
I think your skin tone is beautiful. I do get tired of everyone saying to use self tanner. I mean there’s nothing wrong with being fair-skinned! If you are comfortable with it – that’s ALL that counts.
I’m not a big shorts wearer but these look nice. I’ll have to look into them.
Have a blessed weekend. ❤️
Thanks Gina! Yeah, I never used to worry about using self tanner until I started blogging and taking a lot more pictures of myself. Lol I see other ladies use it, and it looks really beautiful on their skin. I’m just not sure it is something that I want to do or can get to work right for me.
