Hello ladies! Today, I’m posting a guide for shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that’s starting this week. For all of you who love this yearly sale, I will have another post on Friday afternoon too when early access to the sale begins for Nordstrom card holders. I will be shopping the sale along with posting my recommendations. If you are interested, I would love for you to bookmark this post and join me Friday to shop.
If you are not that interested in this sale or don’t shop at Nordstrom, please don’t leave just yet! This sale can still be useful, whether you shop it or not, as it gives us some insight into the trends for the fall season. Yes, that’s right! I said fall!! For those of you who may not know, this sale is very unique, because new 2019 fall fashions are heavily discounted before the fall season even begins. Once the sale is over, these new items will go back up to regular pricing!
If you are like me, shopping for fall clothing may not even be on your radar! Perhaps, you are still filling in your summer wardrobe. I can completely understand. One thing that I don’t enjoy about fashion blogging, especially at this time of year since I love summer, is that you are always working a season ahead. Even so, I can assure you that I am not going to abandon showing summer fashions yet. At the same time, this is a good sale if you want to get ahead on the fall season or should I even dare say do some Christmas shopping in July!!
Block Heel Cutout Bootie | Lipstick Set | Handbag | Barefoot Dreams Cardigan | Leopard Print Cardigan | Earrings | Tall Brown Boots | Snakeskin Jacket | Loafer | Gray Boot | Belt | Slipper
Keep in mind, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale items I’ve linked above cannot be shopped until the sale on Friday. So, be sure to check back then!
Early Fall Trends
One of the fun things about just window shopping this sale is it gives an early insight into some of the possible fashion trends for fall! From what I’ve seen so far, here are some things to watch for when September rolls around.
Animal Prints – We’ve seen this trend all year! While leopard print is still going strong, I’m seeing lots and lots of snakeskin in everything. I love leopard print but am not a huge fan of all the snakeskin. Maybe, it will grow on me?! What do you think about it?
Lots Of Plaid – I’m seeing lots of plaid, especially on jackets, coats, and skirts.
Cutout Booties/Sandals – These are still around for fall along with some perforated booties. I am glad. These shoes are nice transition pieces and great for fall or winter if you live in a warmer climate.
All Styles Of Jeans – So far, there doesn’t seem to be one dominate style, though skinnies are definitely still everywhere. Flared jeans and straight style are starting to gain popularity. I imagine we will see some cropped styles again like we did in the spring.
Bright Colors – Bright, bold colors are showing up on jackets and coat. Solids seem to be just as trendy as plaids. I’m also seeing more outfits featuring the same color from head to toe.
Tips For Shopping This Sale
Check Your Wardrobe For Missing Pieces – When looking at building your wardrobe for any season, I would recommend starting with basic pieces or necessities that may be missing. Go through your closet and look for any gaps. Maybe, you need a pair of tall boots or new jacket. Perhaps, you need a go to cardigan, sweater, or some new jeans. I think Nordstrom is a good place to look for basic pieces. I also saw in their catalog lots of skirts. This might be a good time to start thinking about your fall work wardrobe.
Start With Neutrals – While bright colors seem popular, I start filling in my closet with favorite neutral colors first in basic key pieces. I like to have some neutral shoes, jackets, coats, cardigans, and pants that will go with all other colors. Once I have that done, I start looking at adding pieces in my favorite bolder colors.
Classic Pieces First, Trends Second – This tip ties into my first one on buying basics for building a wardrobe foundation. While this is a sale, I would stick to budgeting more for classic pieces that can be worn for years – think investment pieces. I would spend less on anything very trendy, especially before fall even gets here! Some of these early trends could fade away by September – you never know!
Order Several Sizes Since Returns Are Free – Since Nordstrom has free shipping and returns, I also suggest ordering multiple sizes in unfamiliar brands. You can always return what you don’t need free of penalty. Plus, some items may sell out rather quickly, so it is better to be safe than sorry if you really like an item!
Consider Applying For A Nordstrom Card – Nordstrom cardholders get early access to the sale starting this Friday, July 12th at 12:30 p.m. ET. If you like to shop at Nordstrom, you may want to consider applying for a Nordstrom Credit Card Here (though certainly don’t feel pressured to – see tip below). Besides gaining early access to the anniversary sale and a few other perks, you earn reward points on all your purchases towards coupons or notes to use when shopping in the future. If you apply for one today, you will automatically receive a $60 note that you could apply towards a purchase during the sale!
Always Keep Budget In Mind – There is a lot of hype in the blogging world around this sale. Yet, this is just one sale. There will always be more good sales for fall with good deals to be had. Don’t ever feel pressured to max out your budget or spend more than you should. Also if you don’t feel comfortable applying for their store credit card and want to shop the sale, you certainly still can. The sale opens to everyone on July 19th, and you will still be able to find good deals.
What’s On My List
I am looking for mainly booties this year. I really need a black pair. If my budget allows, I would love to add some leopard print booties too! I am also looking for a new black cardigan.
What I Bought Last Year
Last year, it was all about cardigans. It looks like this Barefoot Dreams Circle Cardigan will be included in the sale again. I wore mine out with casual outfits even though it is considered lounge wear. I found myself reaching for it on most cold winter days at home too. It is like wearing an ultra soft warm blanket!
I also bought this Leith circle cardigan in blush and gray. I don’t usually buy multiples of the same item, but this one was just so good! I wore them both regularly.
I may have purchased some Articles Of Society Jeans, but I can’t remember. Lol
Some other things to consider looking into would be Beauty Products, Premium Denim, workout clothing, undergarments, some good no show socks, jewelry, Luggage, and home products.
Sale Dates To Remember
Early Access For Nordstrom Cardholder – July 12 – 18
Sale Access For Everyone – July 19 – August 4
One last thing to think about is how fall is a transition season. It will start out warm. Many summer items you have now or that are on sale now will work for your early fall wardrobe. For example, these cute Sandals would look great with jeans and a fall top. Also, you may want a Cardigan early on that is not too thick.
