Today, I’ve got another try-on session featuring some Loft summer dresses. I love to wear dresses in the summer months but really have a difficult time finding ones that fit right!
I think I’ve discussed my problems with finding good fitting jeans and pants before, and it’s the same issues with dresses too. I already have a very short waist. Plus, I deal with extra weight like I never have before (as many of us do) after turning 50. So, finding dresses that are accommodating and flattering for my thicker waistline is not easy, especially when I need a petite fit everywhere else!
And honestly, finding a dress that fits my short waist well without being too big everywhere else has always been an issue even when I was much skinnier. It’s just how I’m made. Anyway, I share all of this to remind us that we all have those imperfections we have to deal with no matter our size or weight.
And this is a try-on session, so I share some of the outfits that don’t work for me here and why.
For this summer dresses try-on session, I have two dresses that are cute and flattering, but this first one did not work.
Perfect Tank Midi Dress
I really hesitated to share the pictures of this first dress. I look really stressed trying to photograph it while trying to suck in my tummy! This soft light-weight summer dress is really cute and would probably look great on someone of a different body type. I’m wearing the petite large because I knew it was more form fitting. But, I typically go up a size in petite clothing anyway.
I’m wearing a very light pair of shaper shorts underneath it. While that helps some, they are not constricting whatsoever, and I like to be comfortable anyway. For some reason, I threw on my strapless bra (which I love!) with it, and you can see the outline of it in some of the photos. Maybe, a racerback bra would have been a better choice, but this dress is just too fitted/tight on me.
Floral Flutter Swing Dress
This little swing dress is super cute, and the material has a silky feel. It’s wonderful to wear on a hot summer day. The cute sleeves appear to be very large and open, but the armholes underneath are actually not that big. This is a dress I would wear to church. Or, it’s a very comfortable dress to wear all day if you work in an office.
I did order a petite large but probably should have gotten the petite medium in this one. This dress does run a little big, and it’s very forgiving. My husband told me he thinks the large fits when I asked him. But I’m thinking it might be good to try the medium size? What do you think?
Double V Midi Dress
This cute Double V dress feels like it was just made for me! If I could describe the perfect summer dress, it would be this one! It’s very soft and flattering. And I love that it comes with a super long stretchy string tie at the waist. You can adjust it as needed to fit your waist and give this flouncy dress some structure. I have it wrapped around twice and tied in the back.
As the name says, it does have a V in the back too, but it’s doesn’t come down too low. Plus, the straps on this dress accommodate a regular bra.
I would feel comfortable wearing this dress to church, and it would be perfect for taking on vacation too.
Even though it’s called a midi dress, the petite large just hits the top of my knees. If you are taller (I’m 5’2″) or want a true midi dress, it would probably be better to try it in a regular size.
