When I first started reading fashion blogs and saw Scripture, Christian quotes, or even short devotionals as part of those posts or blogs, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Fashion, online shopping, and faith just did not go together, at least in my mind anyway. It seemed so odd! And yet, now here I am sharing my faith in a place that seemed so unexpected.
You see, I tend to compartmentalize things in my head. Do you? One compartment holds home life while another one holds work life. Social activities may have a different one as well as hobbies. Friends and family might have their separate places. And there is often a different compartment for church and its related activities. Sometimes, some of these things overlap. However, I think we all have certain compartments that are held by our own boundaries and kept completely separate from others. While some of these boundaries are good, our faith in God and understanding of His character is something that should permeate through every area.
We know as Christians the importance of being the same person throughout the week as on Sunday morning. However, sometimes, we really have to work at lifting the boundaries between sharing our faith and those settings, situations, or compartments where we don’t think faith fits or is appropriate. And we have to trust God, Who wants to be part of every facet of our lives, to not be afraid of crossing those boundaries for His glory – not just ours.
His Spirit doesn’t just work through us in that compartment dedicated to church, a church related activity, or even a dedicated mission field. He works in all places. And He wants to use us everywhere He places us even if it feels odd to us or challenges our comfort zone.
It’s just like when God seeks to be part of all the decisions we make – even if we think they must be insignificant to Him. And, God wants to meet us in our needs or problems in situations we think wouldn’t be important to Him too.
So, I want to encourage each of us this week to open all the compartments and areas of our lives fully to God. Tear down any boundaries to areas where you don’t think He would care. And don’t fear expressing your faith in Him where it seems least expected.
Dressed in Faith
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
