As much as I try to encourage each of us to keep up our faith and belief in the promises of God here on the blog, don’t believe for one minute that I don’t sometimes have my doubts! Everyone of us who follows Christ has doubts from time to time.
I know I have doubts as to whether He is listening to me and cares about my concerns. Will He really work certain things out for me in certain situations? Will He actually do what I believe He’s telling me He will do?
While I certainly don’t want or mean to doubt God, my human nature will often get the better of me. Often, my first response to my own doubts may be to question the strength of my faith or beat myself up over having them creep into my mind in the first place.
I especially do this when answers don’t come quickly or easily. We know God’s timing is not always our timing. I also do this when I question my ability to carry out the tasks I feel God is calling me to do. How about you?
Yet, let’s not be too quick to be so hard on ourselves though. Think of how many examples there are in the Bible of men and women who had incredible faith but also doubted.
There was Thomas who doubted that Christ had risen. Abraham and Sarah doubted God would give them a child. Zechariah doubted he and Elizabeth would have a child too. Moses doubted he could lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
What did God do when these faithful servants doubted? He did exactly what He said He would do. He worked miracles and showed His glory despite all their doubts.
So when we have doubts, let’s choose to remain faithful, hopeful, and willing to do what God asks. When I really think about my past doubts, it eventually became evident that He was listening, He did help me, and He did everything He said He would do.
Dressed in Faith
And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.
