I’m talking fall fashion trends today. Can y’all believe it is almost September?! As much as I love summer, I guess I’m going to have to accept the fact that fall is fast approaching. Haha! It’s not that I don’t like fall. It’s just that I don’t like what comes weather-wise after that!
I must say, though, that I will enjoy changing up what I’m currently wearing a little bit. As someone who likes fashion, I’m getting a little bit bored with my summer wardrobe! It is always fun to look at what will be trending the next season and to start planning ahead.
Whenever I research fashion trends, I always find the outrageous and the even more outrageous. It can get very interesting! So, I try to translate these trends into wearable everyday fashions that make sense for you and me.
I don’t always like every new trend. Yet, I can usually find a few that I enjoy wearing which helps keep my style current and not looking outdated. I’m sure the same can be said for each of you.
Something to keep in mind is some of the fall trends this year are inspired by past decades – think the 80’s and 90’s. So, some of these may not be really new to us over 40 ladies. I didn’t list every single trend I found as some seem more appropriate for winter – like the 80’s puffer coat trend. I tried to keep everything appropriate for fall weather.
Animal Prints
Well, this is certainly no surprise! You can find animal prints on shoes, skirts, tops, and pants. The biggest one this season is snakeskin. At first, I wasn’t thrilled with the snakeskin look, but it is starting to grow on me.
Florals
I’m not sure this is really a fall trend. Florals seem to be popular most seasons. Of course, the colors are darker and more reflective of fall.
Plaids
Plaid seems to be more of a fall classic than trend too. However this year, they are showing up more on the still popular blazers and suits.
Long Hems
We will see longer cardigans and longer coats.
Capes
Cape style coats are suppose to be a hot trend. I don’t see too many to shop for yet. This may be more of a winter trend depending on where you live. I am seeing a lot of ponchos for fall.
Leather
Some of the trend forecasts say Grunge or Punk Rock looks will return. I translate this into we will be seeing more leather. Maybe, styles will be a little more edgier. A nice leather jacket can also be a classic closet staple.
Jeans
It’s hard to name a definitive trend in jean styles. I think things are slowly shifting away from skinny jeans though. Distressing and raw hem details are everywhere! If you want to invest in something updated, I would go with a straighter cropped jean for fall.
Fashion Sneakers
I think with athleisure wear still being popular, fashion sneakers are ever evolving and changing. I bought these sneakers, and they are so comfortable. I will be wearing them a lot with jeans this fall.
Fall Colors
I’ve seen any shade of purple being a big color trend for fall. Yay! I love the color purple. I’ve also seen articles mentioning pistachio green as a popular fall color.
I didn’t mention very much about shoe styles – totally unusual for me. Ha! As always, you’ll see lots of booties. Also, loafers will still be popular too.
What do you think? Do any of these trends speak to your style?
