Today, I’m talking about bralettes and how to wear one! I see a lot of younger bloggers styling cute tops with a bralette. While it is a cute look, I did not think it was for me! Well, never say never!!

I recently found these cute Gingham Shorts and knew they would be a great addition to my closet. I have several black tops that I can wear with them. This black swing top is one of my favorites, but because of the large armholes I have to always wear a tank top underneath. Often when the weather is really hot, I do not like the extra layer of a tank top though. However, I recently found a bralette works great for these types of tops keeping me much cooler!
First, let me say that I did not think I could wear a bralette! I felt I needed more support than they offer. Yet after talking to the lady who works in the store where I bought the floral sundress (see yesterday’s Post), I realized I was wrong.
Here is what I learned about wearing a bralette.
I can wear my regular bra underneath, much like I wear a bra underneath a tank top. I never thought of doing that! Depending on the style of the bralette and your top, you can wear either your normal bra, a t-strap bra, or a strapless bra underneath it. Plus, a bralette over your strapless bra gives you a little extra assurance that everything stays in place. For this top, I’m wearing my normal bra with no special adjustment to the straps – it looks like I’m wearing a lace tank top underneath.
I was also surprised to find that my bralette is very stretchy and is very comfortable over my regular bra – not too tight. The one I got is also one size bigger than I wear, because that’s all they had in stock at the time. I think that ended up being a good thing for wearing it over my regular bra. So, you might want to keep that in mind when buying one. Mine also did come with removable pads. So for short periods of time, I actually don’t mind wearing just the bralette with the pads (I remove them when wearing it over my regular bra). I think it is also a great option for wearing with loungewear around the house too when you want some light but comfortable support.
My bralette looks practically identical to this One! I can’t speak to the quality of it, but it does get good reviews and is only $20. If you want to try it out as I’ve suggested and need a good strapless bra, this Strapless Bra from Victoria’s Secret is similar to one I currently have. It also comes with convertible straps. I’ve also heard good things about this Strapless Bra too.
So what do you think? Have you tried wearing a bralette?
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Jodie!
Super cute! I have a couple bralettes in my drawer but have been too afraid to wear them. Thanks for the inspiration! Btw, I’m visiting from Kay Harms’ blog.
Thank you so much for visiting Molly! I’m glad I could be of help. Definitely try wearing your bralettes this way – such a game changer!!
