I’ve probably told y’all more than once here that I struggle with having a cheery or positive outlook. Unfortunately, I see a glass half-empty most days than half-full. The bad thing is that the last couple of years, especially, have been pretty rough on me, and I’m sure on others like me! However, I decided this is the year that I’m going to change my perspective once and for all! And as soon as I said that, illness and some challenges hit me pretty hard before the new year even began! So, how am I ever going to change my outlook?!
Look anywhere on social media, and you see so many positive uplifting quotes that make you say, yes, I can do whatever I set my mind to do! Then, there are thousands of how-to books on living your best, most successful life. There are even courses out there too. But eventually, something bad happens to each of us that can bring even the most positive person to feel down every once and awhile.
The thing is all the positive quotes repeated over and over can’t bring us positivity or peace among the chaos. We can’t always will ourselves to be more positive in our own strength. The fact that there are so many motivational books written speaks for itself – none can provide a lasting or complete solution to joy, positivity, and happiness. We humans are constantly striving and searching for an inner peace that cannot be found in the mere words or opinions of others, let alone ourselves.
The only One Who can truly meet my needs and help me truly change my attitude is God, His Son, and His Holy Spirit. While inspiring quotes and books are certainly not a bad thing to see and read, I want to always turn to the Word of God first when I need uplifting. I want to lean on the strength of His Holy Spirit within me to look for the best and see His blessings. God’s peace is what truly keeps us hopeful and positive even in the middle life’s storms.
