I’m so happy today to be sharing some wearable spring fashion trends with you. I love that we are on the downhill slope with winter weather, and warmer sunny days are just around the corner! To keep this post from being too long, I’ll mainly be talking about clothing trends. I’m saving spring trends in shoes and accessories for another time.
There are a lot of different fashion themes for this spring and summer. So first, let’s take a look at this year’s major themes, and then, we’ll look at some of the specific trends that are wearable and practical for our everyday wardrobes.
What’s interesting about this year’s themes or trends is that many are on opposite ends of the spectrum. So, if you’re unhappy with one trend, then you may very well like the opposite one.
Fashion Themes 2022
Y2K Fashion
One of the big themes is styles are coming back from this era. Supposedly lower rise jeans and crop tops and sweaters are coming back. Exposed midriffs and tops as bras are a big trend – to which I say no thanks! Ha!
Big Oversized Looks
In contrast to the Y2K theme of wearing less, we’ll also see styles with lots of fabric and flowy movement. Suiting is going to be popular with wide legged pants. I’ve also seen suggestions that Boho styles will be trending.
Bright Colors
Color is really making a comeback this year from saturated darker colors to bright and vibrant pastels. As for neutrals, wearing all white will be popular.
Wearable Trends 2022
Shorter Fitted Cardigans
One of the trends coming into the mainstream is inspired by the Y2K era’s cropped tops and sweaters. It’s shorter fitted sweaters and cardigans. I’m sure we’ll see the much younger crowd wearing the cropped tops, but you certainly can find shorter sweaters that don’t expose your midriff!
I especially like the shorter cardigans of past years with wider jean styles and pants. Plus, I’m seeing lots of options for these in stores. As my grandmother used to say when I was very young, everybody needs a good spring sweater to throw on when it’s chilly.
Cutouts
I feel like cutouts are another trend coming out of the Y2K theme. These can add interest and be modest like the sleeves on this pretty white blouse. When I started looking for specific trends online I found more cutouts in tops than I thought I would.
Plus, I found a bit of resurgence in cold shoulder tops. We’ll see if this style is making a comeback?! Whether it does or not, if you like that look, I think this Vince Camuto cold shoulder blouse is gorgeous. Plus, the sleeves give it that flowy movement that will be popular.
Blazers
Blazers have been popular for the last several years. So if you’ve been thinking about getting one, now is the time since suiting is a major trend. And a blazer is a classic piece you can wear for years! You can wear it to work or on the weekend.
I just ordered this blazer in smoke pink for spring. I notice blazers are taking on bold patterns which is another trend for spring I’ll discuss below.
Wide Leg Pants
While this trend may not be for everyone, it makes sense that pants are following the jean trend and getting looser. I personally love the look of wide leg pants but have to be careful. If they are too full, they can be too much for someone who is petite.
Pleated Skirts
Pleated skirts are supposed to be a big trend. They are a classic way to get that popular flowy movement in clothing this spring. The tiered skirts we saw last year are coming back strong this year too. I’ve also seen where very, very short skirts will be in style as well as maxi skirts. So, pick the length you love to wear!
A Column of Color or All White
Didn’t I say many of these trends were on opposite ends of the spectrum?! Monochromatic looks will be popular whether it’s all in one bright color or all in white. The easiest way to wear this look is with a dress or jumpsuit.
Bold Patterns
Vibrant colors aren’t just going to be found in solids. Bold patterns in stripes, gingham, and florals are trending, and bigger is better. Go big or go home!
I also read fringe would be another trend in fashion but don’t see a lot of it in stores yet. Embroidery is also mentioned too but that seems to be a spring classic just like florals. Lots of attention is still paid to sleeve details, and I am seeing a lot of ruffles too.
So, which of these trends do you like the best or will be wearing? Of course, there is certainly no rule that says we have to wear all or any of them. Yet, they are always fun to watch. And I like the challenge of breaking down the extreme styles that come out every year into practical styles we can dress in everyday.
Dressed in Faith
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
