When I think about it, I have spent a lot of my life waiting. I waited for my one true love. I waited longer than expected trying to have a baby, then again for another. I’ve waited for recognition, acceptance, rewards, healing, solutions to problems, and answers to prayers. There are many things for which I’m still waiting!
Waiting for something special can cause great hope, expectation, and excitement. Most of the time though, waiting can be long and difficult when things don’t come as quickly as we want or need them. If you are feeling weary while waiting for something right now, know that you are in good company.
There are many heroes of faith who had to wait. Abraham and Sarah waited until they were very old for a child. Joseph waited enduring slavery and prison before seeing his dream become a reality. Job waited patiently on the Lord through great suffering. Simeon waited to see Christ.
David also certainly knew what it was like to wait. While waiting on God’s promise to become Israel’s king, David spent much of his time running for his life. Yet, he never gave up on God and His promises. He trusted God’s timing. His faith and hope never wavered. David loved God with his whole heart through the good and the bad.
When I get impatient and want to give up waiting on God’s promises for me, I want to remember David’s example of perseverance. I want to remain strong in my love, hope, and faith in the Lord. I want to learn, live, and remain content in the waiting.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Psalm 27:14
Thank you for a great devotional, and a good reminder to patiently wait on the Lord. I am waiting for my 39 year old son’s salvation. He has turned his back on God for several years now. This is something I pray about all the time. Thank you, Dianna, for your blog and your kind heart.
