Today, I’m covering some of the fashion color trends for 2021! If you haven’t heard, Pantone has stated this year’s colors are Ultimate Gray + Illuminating which is a sunny yellow. They say the combination of these two shades represents “strength and positivity.”
I know I’m all for some positivity in 2021! Now when it comes to fashion, I can get on board with the neutral gray, but yellow is a different story for this cool toned girl. I do love the cheeriness of the color, the bright yellow of a sunny day, and yellow flowers. I also love how the color yellow looks on others. Unfortunately, I’ve decided it is just not the best color for me!
If you feel the same way I do about yellow, don’t fear! There are still several other colors that are supposed to be very popular for this spring and summer. It looks like pastels will dominate but don’t they always?!
Along with Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, here are few more hues listed in my research that I thought were pretty.
I also saw that coral and orange are coming back plus some medium shades of green and purple.
While you will probably not see yellow on me much this year, I searched the internet to see what I could find right now in this color. I do think yellow pairs nicely with gray such as a yellow top and gray jeans. You could also put a yellow blouse under a gray blazer for work or pair a yellow sweatshirt with gray joggers for lounging.

I noticed my Leith black cardigan is stocked in every size in the light gray color too which would could be worn now and into spring beautifully with most pastel colors!
It’s always interesting to see how these fashion color trend declarations play out in clothing and other areas of design. So, time will tell. What do you think? Do you like to wear yellow?
I’m with you … I think the color yellow is pretty but on other people. But I do wear it sometimes in tops that are mixed with other colors – just not solid yellow. But it would look awesome with gray.
I’ll have to say that I was disappointed in this years choice for color of the year. Last years’ classic blue was much more my style and I did a whole blog post on it. I do wear yellow, but with all the color choices, I wish Pantone would have chosen something different than yellow and grey. It will be interesting to see if this color combo catches on. I may play around with it and see what I can come up with.
