Since this is Election Day, I felt lead to say a few things on the subject. Don’t worry, this is not a political point of view post – I don’t do that here! Instead, it expresses some feelings I’ve been dealing with over the course of many months. Maybe, you’ve felt this way too? Plus, I want to share some hopeful and encouraging things for moving forward!
I’ve felt really sad lately about just how divisive this upcoming election has been for all of us here in this country. Even more so, I’ve been really sad about how divisive it’s been among Christ’s believers. More than ever, many of us have become so much more emotionally invested in this election. Yet, I don’t believe the divide has to remain or continue especially for Christ’s children! We have so much opportunity to change things for the better with Christ’s help whether our supported candidate wins or not!
So, I want to share a little positive perspective.
First, Christians have a common cause higher than the outcome of any presidential election and our different opinions. That cause is to further the kingdom of Jesus Christ. In doing so, you and I must love! We are to show love to everyone. Period. There are no conditions. We must work together with our Christian brothers and sisters in love to advance His cause. We must love all people whom we bring the news of Christ. We must love those who even hate us – our enemies.
Let’s show love and respect to those we agree with and those we don’t just as Christ shows each of us His love.
Next, let’s remember to be grateful! I am thankful for the country in which I live and for the freedoms I have. I am thankful for the freedom to speak here without fear. I take much of my way of life for granted! Do we have problems in this country? Yes. Yet, much of the world does not have a voice, the right to vote, or freedom to speak opinions without fear or punishment.
Let’s pray for all of our elected officials no matter who wins. It doesn’t matter who we voted for or how we feel about who has been elected to our country’s highest offices. They all need our prayers! They need our prayers just like our neighbor down the street does. They need our prayers just like the family on the other side of the world does.
Whether you are happy with them or not, they were created by the same God Who created each of us. He loves them too. He wants them to come to Him, trust in Him, and accept His Son as their Savior just as He expects that of us. We live in challenging times, and our leaders are dealing with very difficult decisions. We need to pray that God will give them great wisdom, and they will turn to Him as they lead our country.
Finally, let’s remember Who is in control. Jesus is Lord! He is over all nations, rulers, leaders, and creation. His plans will be done. We know as Christians that no person or political group can take care of us the way the Lord can! No one person can save us or do for us what Christ has done! He is the only One in which we should place our hope, our lives, our freedom, and our futures.
Dressed in Faith
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:15-17
Extremely well said, Dianna! You have voiced my thoughts exactly and have done it beautifully. Our hope is in Jesus Christ. Nothing else, and no one else.
Thank you!
A wonderful devotional. Thank you for your reminder of what is really important in our daily lives.
Glad you had a nice visit with your boys and they are doing well.
Thanks so much Marge!
