Today, I have 5 beauty tips for women over 40 to share with you. These are all things I do in my routine. Actually, anyone can benefit from these tips no matter their age! I simply titled the post for women over 40, because I am over 40. In fact, I’ll soon talk about being over 50, but I won’t get ahead of myself just yet!
A lot the tips I’m sharing today are random things I’ve learned over the years from applying makeup to skincare. There may be some common ones you already know, but some you may not. So let’s get started!
Tip #1 – I love using coconut oil. I just buy a big jar of Spectrum coconut oil at the grocery, and it will last forever. I use it a lot as a moisturizer for my skin. As we get older, we need to make sure we are keeping our skin well moisturized! I also like that it is a natural moisturizer too.
I especially love using this for my feet and eyes. For rough, dry feet, rub in this oil and slip on a pair for socks. For eyes, use a little of this oil to take off eye makeup. I think it is very gentle on my eye area too – no irritation.
I couldn’t link to Spectrum, but found this Coconut Oil at Target and this Oil at Ulta.
Tip #2 – I use my CeraVe face wash for shaving my legs. I got the idea to do this when I read somewhere that someone uses their Cetaphil Cleanser for shaving rather than shaving cream. They said it was so much better for their skin. So, I thought I’m going try my CeraVe Cleanser. Well, I’ve never gone back to regular shaving creams. As a result, my legs are not as dry. I also don’t get those red shave bumps as badly!
While CeraVe Face Wash is an expensive for a shaving cream, it lasts forever even using it for both my face and legs. It only takes a small amount to do both jobs adequately.
Tip #3 – I use my concealer sometimes as a highlighter. I don’t normally use a makeup highlighter or bronzer for my face, especially not for an everyday look. Well, I don’t use them for an evening look either! I did see this trick, though, not too long ago, and it works. Dot a little of your concealer across the top of your cheekbone – just above where you put your blush. It does add a touch of sheen and definition to your face. I use and love Clinique Beyond Perfecting Super Concealer. It is one of the best I’ve used that doesn’t accentuate fine lines around my eyes.
Tip #4 – I like to use a light colored crème eyeshadow on the inner corners of my eyelids to open up my eyes. This gives me a youthful, wide awake appearance, especially helpful when my eyes look tired or puffy. Plus, I have hooded eyes. So, I have gotten to the point of adding a light color that coordinates with my skin tone to my whole eyelid – a soft light neutral color like you would use on the browbone. I will highlight my crease area with a medium to dark shade.
If you’ve read some of my other Beauty Posts, you know I love Revlon ColorStay Crème Shadows. I’ve been using this honey color on my eyelids. It’s bright gold. When I first got it, I was really worried that it was going to be too much for a daytime look. Actually, it goes on very light. It’s not a matte shadow, and I know everything says we are supposed to stay away from shimmery eyeshadows as we age. So far, I can’t tell that the shimmery shadows are doing me any disfavors?!
Of course, you can do this trick with any light colored shadow – crème or Powder.
Tip #5 – Don’t be afraid to use a makeup brush with all your products. I know many of you probably already know and do this. I have to admit I’m often in a hurry and put my foundation, crème shadows, and crème blush on with my fingertips. Nothing is wrong with doing it that way. The only problem for me is I get in such a hurry that I often get heavy handed. As we get older, I think less makeup is more.
I now apply my crème shadows and this Crème Blush that I love with my Makeup Brushes. Not only does my makeup go on softer, but it helps me get my makeup precisely in the right spot.
Great tips, Dianna!
