Today, I am sharing my 4 must-have summer shorts. This is one of those years where I needed to finally update and replace many of my summer shorts. Some were just tattered and worn. Some were in colors and patterns that just didn’t coordinate with anything else in my closet. Unfortunately, many were a tad too small!
Thankfully, I did have a few pairs that still worked for me, and they made my must-have list! While I’m showing different color options available, I’ve personally decided to try to stick with more neutral colors going forward when I buy new shorts. I also feel most comfortable in a 4 to 5 inch inseam, though I did break that rule with one pair on the list!
Yes, you’ve heard me rave about these scalloped edge shorts from J. Crew Factory many times here on the blog. So of course, they made my must-have summer shorts list! I already have them in a pink color and decided to purchase them in black too.
Unfortunately, I don’t see them in pink anymore. These tend to always sell out quickly! I think the green is really pretty too, but I stuck to my mainly buy neutrals rule and just purchased them in black this year. I needed a new pair of black shorts, and these look so dressy! The scallops help elevate them even more.
I find these linen blend shorts to be very cool and comfortable.
The next pair of shorts I just recently discovered are also from J. Crew Factory. I wanted to add a super comfy and easy pull on short to my wardrobe. I wanted something mainly for wearing at home but that would be acceptable for going out too. My only hesitation with these linen blend drawstring shorts was the 3 inch inseam. Yet, I don’t feel uncomfortable in them whatsoever!
They have a great loose fit which I think helps with the shorter inseam. I got the more neutral utility green color. Oh, and these are also very cool and comfortable. I wish I had purchased two pair!
While I am very happy with these first two pairs of shorts, the only downside is they do both wrinkle easily. I guess that’s the price you pay for linen! So, you might want to keep that in mind if you don’t want something that requires steaming. Otherwise, this is not a huge deal to me as it seems I always have to iron or steam most of my shorts no matter the material!
Another great all around pair of summer shorts are these 5 inch rolled hem shorts from White House Black Market. I bought the light blue pair last year and just love them. This year, I needed to get another pair of white shorts and immediately thought of these! These shorts are nice and thick – think jeans material.
They’ve also rolled out some other colors in these shorts too. Aren’t the purple ones above cute?! And, I know I need to stay strong here! I said I was going to only invest in more neutral colors. Haha!
Finally, I have really enjoyed wearing these distressed jean shorts I got last year at Maurices. This slightly more distressed pair looks like the updated version of mine.
If you would rather have a good pair of denim shorts without distressing, these WHBM 5 inch rolled denim shorts are on sale! I also considered getting these 5 inch denim shorts too.
